Oh the Juy-orican!

A friend of mine has a company that creates custom keepsake items from recycled t-shirts and other materials. The idea behind this is genius: you can keep that t-shirt you love -forever, you can customize a blanket, pillow, bag, scarf, whatever- with your favorites.  She rocks, and I’d love for you to check out her work : )

The work speaks volumes for itself..  (scarf, pillowcase, lil panda bear), check out the site for way more products, pictures & info:

Gettin’ meshed up on a Saturday night!

Gotta love Halloween:  carving pumpkins, decorations, candy… my favorite though is costume-building; I get to gather materials & ideas and make them into a su-reality!  Very excited for this years idea, which came from my dear friend Kristin – ok I totally stole it from her and said we were both going to be it : D  (it’s a secret, btw).  This day took me to the Depot… and I must say, I totally rocked it.

It’s ’bout to get reeaal meshy up in here!

Under the Sea

On my quest hopping from thrift store to thrift store in search of Halloween gear, I came across this guy.  It brought a smile to my face, as he was my scuba instructor many years back 🙂  He moved his store location, and I never really did know where he went, and then this!  It always was quite difficult to miss his huge red truck driving around.  Very interesting fellow who loves his 2 corgis, he was a great teacher, and he definitely knows his stuff.  I highly recommend him if you are looking to get certified (in this area, anyways).  Oh, and I haven’t mentioned his name because I simply cannot recall it – although I never really could when I was in class either, I defaulted to calling him Scuba Steve…

I have to laugh a bit and recount a story while in his class so maybe you can giggle a bit as well:

At the point where we were ready to begin practicing in the pool with gear, we had to get weighted up (literally adding weights in your suit for buoyancy purposes…).  The tanks are not light.  I was all geared up and ready, save for one small adjustment on my fin…. and in my attempt to make it, I toppled onto my back –and couldn’t get up.  Surely you’ve seen a turtle stuck on it’s back?  While some of the other members of the group got a good laugh, one of them did eventually help me up!  Important lesson learned….!  : D

Was at Wal-Mart and spotted this..

…and it in turn reminded me of this:

Well done!

I want to send a big Congrats to SSC –Seminole State College– and their new eco-friendly building (well, re-build).  When I was first a student there several years ago (back when it was SCC), this building was already in existence, but they remodeled it to add panels to capture sunlight, and the entire inside was also redone.  Bra-Vo!  They finished it over the summer, and also have new buildings since I was first there.  Great school, and very thankful for everything and everyone there who has helped me along the way.  I’ve learned that teachers can make a huge impact on your life, and very very thankful for the inspiration shown by some of the teachers there (particularly Terri Walsh, my current accounting teacher!!).
